Warr guitarist, Jason Blake, is set to release his latest album, A Confusion Sequence, on November 15, 2024, marking a creative reunion with drummer Marco Minnemann, known for his work with The Aristocrats, Steven Wilson, and Joe Satriani. This album, which follows the 2023 release of Subsequent Ruins, showcases Blake’s personal evolution as an artist and his deepening collaboration with Minnemann.
In a recent statement, Minnemann praised Blake’s artistry: “Working with Jason is always a pleasure. His songs are so well-written and performed, they basically play themselves. I love his command of the unique Warr guitar, which creates an almost orchestral sound. Each project with him is a musical journey, and I’m excited for this new release.”
For this project, Blake composed and recorded all the music using his Warr Artisan semi-hollow guitar, aiming to give the album a more acoustic, organic feel. The music blends heavy, dark tones with softer, more reflective passages, showcasing Blake's dynamic range. Speaking about the inspiration behind the album’s title, Blake explained that it reflects how life can seem to change in an instant, leaving us with the sense that we’ve suddenly woken up in a different world.
Blake commented, “While this album is a direct descendant of Subsequent Ruins, I feel like Marco and I have refined our sound. We’re even tighter on this album, and I approached the songwriting with a fresh perspective, weaving different elements of my playing into each track.”
The album was recorded at Gravel Road Recording in Chicago by Amery Schmeisser, who also handled the mixing. Minnemann recorded his drum tracks at Lakeshore Studios, and the final mastering was completed by Andy VanDette. The album’s artwork and design were created by Hajo Mueller.
With its November release on the horizon, this project promises to be one of Blake's most exciting works yet, blending artistry, innovation, and a unique sonic vision.
