New Collaborative Album Out December 5, 2025
Renowned multi-instrumentalist Trey Gunn (King Crimson, TU, The Security Project) and Santa Fe–based artist and experimental musician David Forlano join forces for their first collaborative album, Select Habits of Invertebrates, a striking fusion of improvisation, texture, and sonic curiosity carved from the high desert of New Mexico.
Recorded live at The Nest in Santa Fe on November 22 and December 6, 2024, these sessions capture two artists at the height of their creative dialogue. Gunn’s signature Warr Guitar—a hybrid touch instrument known for its deep harmonic range—meets Forlano’s dynamic palette of electronics, EWI, saxophone, wood flute, and bells, resulting in a constantly morphing sound world that blurs the lines between performer and processor.
Within this live interplay, the sounds of each player are routed through the other’s system, creating what the duo describes as a “hyper-refractive audio experience”—a spontaneous reimagining of tone, gesture, and space. The result is an immersive, otherworldly recording that balances organic breath and digital mutation, abstraction and emotion.
Mixed by Trey Gunn at 7D Studios and mastered by Erik Emil Eskildsen at Universets Centrum in Denmark, Select Habits of Invertebrates showcases two sonic explorers united by a shared devotion to the art of real-time creation. The album’s artwork and design by Julia Hensley visually reflect the intricate, living systems that inspired the music.
