Ian Boddy and Dave Bessell present "Polarity (DiN87)," a remarkable collaboration celebrating the DiN label's 25th anniversary and its founding principle of fostering musical partnerships between artists.

Ian Boddy, the label's founder, has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Robert Rich, Erik Wøllo, Chris Carter, Markus Reuter, and Mark Shreeve (as ARC). When the UK-based Awakenings electronic music concert series invited Boddy to perform with Dave Bessell, it created an opportunity for an exciting new collaboration.

Dave Bessell is well-known to DiN followers for his solo work, collaborations with Parallel Worlds, and his role in the synth supergroup Node. At the concert, both artists played solo sets before joining forces for a stunning 60-minute joint performance. This album features their collaborative set, divided into two longer sections followed by an ambient encore.

The performance begins with retro abstract synth meanderings, soon illuminated by Boddy’s signature Ondes voice. Bessell joins with the beautiful tones of his Aum guitar during a calm, gentle section. After a brief ambient interlude, Boddy builds a wall of sequencers, with Bessell soloing on Minimoog before the music returns to the eerie tones from the beginning.

The second piece starts with unique harmonic progressions from Bessell overlaid with pizzicato percussion. An extended sequencer session meticulously constructed by Boddy and his modular synths follows, with Bessell providing rising chordal pads. Boddy continuously twists and turns the ostinato patterns, leading to a monumental sonic climax.

After the intense, rhythmic textures, the duo concludes with a gentle, blissful encore, improvising warm, analogue chords and pads.

Polarity (DiN87) showcases the incredible potential of live collaborations, where each artist not only plays but listens and responds to the other. The album releases on August 16, 2024.
