Estonian composer and guitarist Argo Vals presents Lavendel, a contemplative and intricately crafted new album that showcases his mastery of acoustic guitar and a deep affinity for new standard tuning. Marking a shift from the layered electronics of In Loving Memory Of (2020), Lavendel embraces minimalism, placing delicate compositions and organic textures at the forefront.
The album features standout collaborations, including Kitty Florentine’s haunting vocals on “Barokk,” Karl Petti’sgolpe percussion on “Õhuke joon,” and a baroque-inspired arrangement on “Gambale” featuring Kristo Käo on baroque guitar and Villu Vihermäe on viola da gamba. The result is a sonic landscape that feels both timeless and intimate.
Inspired by the calming properties of lavender, Lavendel bridges past and present, offering a deeply personal listening experience rooted in quiet intensity and emotional nuance.
Lavendel was composed and arranged by Argo Vals between 2018–2024 and recorded in Tallinn. The album was mixed by Martin Kikas at Ö Studio and mastered by JJ, with design by Martin Rästa at Baas Design.
