Matt Dorsey - Let Go
Acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Matt Dorsey's solo album, Let Go, is a dynamic blend of progressive, pop, and rock influences drawn from his musical inspirations, including Rush, Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, XTC, The Police, Peter Gabriel, and Steely Dan. On the album, Dorsey performs vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, and percussion, as well as drums on two tracks. He is joined by renowned musicians Marco Minnemann (drums on three tracks), Jonathan Mover (drums on three tracks), and Dave Kerzner, who contributes a keyboard solo on “Waiting for the Fall”.
"Let Go is a reflection on the many aspects of life," says Dorsey. “My background in philosophy shaped much of the album’s themes. ”Man" explores the human condition, while Echo expresses a deep connection with all living things, drawing from Eastern philosophy. The title track, “Let Go”, embodies a Taoist and Zen-like perspective, embracing the natural flow of life. On the other hand, “Waiting for the Fall” and “Castles Made of Sand” delve into existential despair—one tackling perpetual failure, the other contemplating the fleeting nature of time. To balance things out, “Compromise”, “Dangerous”, and “Impossible Friends” are more straightforward love songs. Life is full of contrasts, and I believe art should reflect that. Let Go is, at its core, an album about the philosophy of life."
Recorded primarily in Dorsey's home studio in Orange County, the album was mixed by Matt Dorsey and mastered by Andy VanDette, with stunning album artwork by Ed Unitsky.
A founding member of Sound of Contact, Dorsey has also played with Beth Hart, Dave Kerzner, In Continuum, and the progressive rock all-star cover band ProgJect, as well as performing with his own band, the Matt Dorsey Band at the ProgStock Festival in 2023 and multiple solo performances including an opening set at a Marillion Weekend.
“My hope is that listeners find meaning and enjoyment in the music—whether it's the rhythms, melodies, or something deeper,” says Dorsey. “Music has the power to move people, and I feel privileged to be a part of that.”
