Markus Reuter - Passacaglia (for Solo Harp)
Passacaglia was composed in early 2022 at Burg Wendelstein, Kaiserpfalz, Germany, in response to an opportunity to contribute to renowned harpist Marion Ravot's debut album, which was eventually released in November 2024. This harmonically simple and repetitive tune utilises the unique features of the harp, where the hands can play interlocking patterns, creating a hypnotic effect with nested melodies. Structurally based on a 4x5x7 polyrhythm, the sound world crafted here marries the minimal music of the 1970s with traditional Irish music.
This score was engraved by Gabriel Lucas Riccio and contains no performance markings, leaving the interpretation entirely to the performer.
