Daniel Reyes Llinás – Electric Guitar
There are movements that begin long before their direction becomes apparent. They pass through cells, oceans, memory, following invisible currents that act upon matter and alter its form. In Lugares, Daniel Reyes Llinás makes them perceptible through sound, transforming the electric guitar into a sensitive surface. Stripped of their familiar tensions, the strings trace magnetic floors and cavities in which acoustic space contracts, plunges, or unfolds into sudden openings.
In Tele, composer Ravi Kittappa imagines an aerial space in which the instrument moves with a mutable, contemplative voice, allowing itself to be shaped by the coordinates of perception. In Supellex, Elliott Sharp layers matter: spectral resonance, echoes and metallic timbres emerge and recede without warning. In the dreamlike tableau of New Dark Age, Kirsten Volness sets in motion a web of supple, whispered sounds that split and double against the darkness of an unstable backdrop, finding mutual shelter in their intricate interplay.
Suspended landscapes emerge, at times feverish, where sound acquires a tactile quality and the ear loses its bearings.
In Pertenecer, the journey gathers into a minimalist dialogue: the guitar, upended and extended, merges with the glacial weave spun by the string trio of Madeline Hocking, Hannah Selin and Clara Cho, until the boundary between instrument and space dissolves.
Lugares is the threshold between being anchored to the world and reaching beyond its boundaries. Remote memories and visions of a future never inhabited coexist outside any chronology, within a sonic present that expands in multiple directions. Between belonging and transformation, identity remains unfinished, exposed to what we have yet to know.
